Change of management in the EUROBAUSTOFF headquarters

Exactly 120 days after joining the management of EUROBAUSTOFF Handelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, Bad Nauheim, Dr. Eckard Kern will now assume the top management position on 1 August 2017.

In doing so, he takes over from Ulrich Wolf who is handing over his position after twelve years of highly successful work for the cooperation and the industry to leave the company at the end of the year on grounds of age. In association with Jörg Hoffmann and Hartmut Möller, Dr. Kern will form the future management of EURBAUSTOFF.

Dr. Kern has been working in the company as managing director and designated successor for Ulrich Wolf since 3 April. Kern (49), who was managing director of Villeroy & Boch Fliesen GmbH until the end of April 2015 and subsequently worked as management consultant, used his first few weeks with the company to familiarise himself with the internal structure of the cooperation and the headquarters. This also included many visits to the partner companies. “These four months have been very beneficial for me, in particular the many talks with Ulrich Wolf. He spoke openly about all the specifics within the cooperation and disclosed that which can often only be read between the lines. It was the perfect preparation for the job I have to do now,” assures Dr. Kern.

Ulrich Wolf was always in favour of speaking openly throughout his time with the company and his success always proved this right. Wolf assumed his work in Bad Nauheim, which involved the integration of very different retailer characters, only a few months after the fusion of the former associations Interbaustoff and Interpares-Mobau. He promoted the expansion in the German-speaking countries and, with the Austrian Bauwelt partners, the Dutch partner Timber&Building (formerly PontMeyer) and the 13 Swiss building materials retailers, started the internationalisation of the cooperation. Overall, he succeeded in almost doubling the buying volume in the headquarters. In 2017 the cooperation will exceed the 6 billion euro mark for the first time.

Dr. Kern, as the new chairman, has also found his own topics of the future. “Two topics are top of the agenda: the one is, of course, the digitalisation of our business processes and the logistical challenges. Also, in order to continue the success of Ulrich Wolf, we must be on the lookout for new further growth potential.” He sees a risk on the supplier side: “We anticipate that the one or the other supplier will try to undermine the proven 3-level sales channel also in the future and we need to be very vigilant here. The more solidarity and loyalty we have within our EUROBAUSTOFF community, the more successful we will be in this.”
